Us and the environment
The European paper industry is one of the more attentive industries as regards the environment because it utilises renewable resources that create recyclable products.
Burgo Group shares the commitment made by CEPI (Confederation of European Paper Industries), of which it is a member, and promotes a responsible approach as regards resources, sustainable forest management and implementation of environmental management systems.
Actions cover all sectors of activity:
- selection and treatment of raw materials: the Group has always been careful about this and was the first in Italy to launch an FSC® certified Mixed Sources coated woodfree paper. The Group is in the front line in the fight against illegal logging and has adopted a Good Forest Management policy that aims to prevent use of timber from questionable sources;
- production processes, which means ongoing studies for improvement in terms of optimising use of water and energy resources and limiting and reducing emissions;
- waste disposal, which has seen an increase in waste sorting and reduction of waste despatched to tips;
- logistics, with a distribution system that by increasing the multi-modal system tends to reduce pollution caused by road transport.
On this subject, the Group not only implements policies to conform with regulations in force but also takes on board voluntary protocols (Agenda 21) and promotes staff training on issues of sustainable growth..
Furthermore, Burgo Group plays an active role and is a promoter within ICFPA (International Council of Forest and Paper Associations) in which fifty-six companies in the sector at international level have signed the first declaration of sustainability.
Results are evidenced by relevant recognitions for products and processes: certifications ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, EMAS, FSC®, PEFC, and the Emas Ecolabel Award 2006.
