Target Net Zero Carbon

9.8 MW Solar Park completed at Burgo Ardennes Plant

More than 16.000 latest-generation panels producing sustainable electricity and bringing Burgo closer to the Net Zero Carbon target.

The installation of a new photovoltaic park has been recently completed at the Burgo Ardennes plant in Virton, Belgium.

The installation, which began at the end of August within the company perimeter, was completed at the end of September.

The plant covers a wide area at the Burgo Ardennes site: over 16 hectares of land in the Walloon region in Belgium.

Featuring more than 16.000 latest-generation panels, the photovoltaic park generates 9.8 megawatt-hours of electricity per year, enough to meet the energy needs of about 3.000 homes.

The major investment required for the installation is part of Burgo Group's commitment to sustainability and marks another step along the path envisaged within the ESG GO 2030 ESG strategy.

A photovoltaic park of this scale plays a key role in the decarbonisation effort, contributing to the target Zero Net Carbon through the use of renewable energy sources, like biomass and photovoltaic.

This approach helps decrease the greenhouse gas emissions and consequently lowering the overall environmental impact.

The investment programme started by the Company over the last two years has given continuity to the modernisation and technological improvement processes begun in previous years, to the strengthening of actions to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and improve energy efficiency, to the circularity strategy to increase the recovery of process waste and reduce the need for water resources, and to the focus on the life cycle of products and the entire production chain, commented Luca Sassoli, CEO of Burgo Energia and Head Group Energy Manager.

The energy produced by the solar panels will replace a portion of the electricity that Burgo Group would otherwise have sourced from traditional energy suppliers, often reliant on fossil fuels.
